Welcome to The Magic Within Photography – I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m Sabrina, a photographer with over 18 years’ experience, specialising in motherhood, maternity, birth and newborn photography. I’m based in Scotland’s Central Belt and travel anywhere from Glasgow to Edinburgh to capture some of life’s most precious moments.
This blog is very close to my heart. It’s a place where I can share not just my photography, but also the stories, knowledge and experiences I’ve gathered over the years. All centred around the incredible journey of becoming a mother. My hope is that you’ll find inspiration here, practical tips and, above all, a feeling of connection.
My Journey into Motherhood Photography

While studying at college and completing my training as a medical assistant, I worked in hospitals – mainly in the maternity ward and the newborn unit – as well as in doctors’ surgeries. I had the privilege of being present at hundreds of births. Each one moved me deeply and showed me the incredible strength and devotion women carry within them.
My fascination with the beginning of life started many years earlier. I was seven years old when my mum went into hospital and came home a day later, no longer with a round belly but with my baby brother in her arms. That miracle – that a whole new person had suddenly joined our family, completely captivated me. From that moment, I was in awe of the fact that women can bring new life into the world.
After my medical training, I realised that something was still missing. I wanted not only to help and care for people, but also to explore my creative and artistic side. So I packed my bags, left the small village where I had grown up and moved to a larger German city to study photography at an art and media academy.
During my studies, my passion for photography grew, along with my desire to see more of the world. I knew I needed to improve my English if I wanted to succeed in photography, so I moved to London to work as an au pair. That year not only improved my language skills, it also sparked my deep love for this island – a love that has drawn me back to the UK again and again.
After my time as an au pair, I worked in fashion and product photography for an international fashion agency. This role took me across the UK and to other parts of Europe, before I eventually became Head Photographer in the Midlands.
When I moved to Scotland, I returned to my roots – working with families, babies and expectant mothers and discovered birth photography as the perfect way to combine my medical background with my passion for photography.
Why I Blog
The idea for this blog grew from countless conversations I’ve had with expectant mothers during photo sessions. Time and again, questions come up that I can answer thanks to my background in photography, my medical experience and my years of working closely with families.
As I’ve also worked for many years as a content writer for magazines, it felt natural to create a space where I could share my knowledge and my love for storytelling. This blog is for expectant mothers, new mums, families interested in family photography in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and anyone looking for inspiration and support on their journey into motherhood.
“It’s important to me that every mother sees herself in my images. It’s not just about the photo – it’s about the feeling it creates within her.”
Here you’ll find topics such as:
- Pregnancy and birth preparation

My Photography Style

For me, photography is so much more than a perfectly lit, technically flawless image. What truly matters – and what I want to capture for you – are the real, raw emotions.
I love being close to those special moments. The smile of an expectant mother when she feels her baby move. The gentle touch of a new mum holding her newborn for the first time. The warmth and safety in an intimate embrace.
My goal is to capture these moments so that when you look at your images, you don’t just remember how it was, you feel it again. It’s not about the perfect pose or a spotless background. It’s about telling your story in a way that is real and meaningful.
I take the time to get to know you, to listen, and to give you the space you need to be yourself. Whether it’s laughter, tears, quiet moments or chaos, it all belongs. That’s what makes your story unique.
“Sometimes it’s the imperfect moments that make the image perfect.”
Behind the Scenes
I’m open to absolutely anything when it comes to finding the perfect location for your shoot. Of course, I have my favourite places. The forest, where the light filters softly through the trees, or the beach, where the sky meets the sea in gentle colours. I often recommend them because they create such a beautiful atmosphere.
But in the end, the shoot should reflect you and your family. If your own garden holds special meaning because it’s where your child took their first steps, then that’s where we’ll go. If you dream of photos in a golden rapeseed field, among sunflowers, or by a riverbank, we can make that happen.
What matters to me is that you feel comfortable and that your photos don’t just look beautiful, but tell a story that truly belongs to you. I won’t take you to a location that has no meaning for you – instead, we’ll find the place where genuine, unposed moments can happen naturally.
I always leave room for spontaneity during a shoot. Sometimes it’s the unexpected moments. A sudden gust of wind, a burst of laughter from a child, a loving glance, that makes the image truly special. It’s not about everything being perfectly staged. It’s about seeing yourself in the images and feeling something every time you look at them.
Looking Ahead
In the coming weeks, you can expect posts about hypnobirthing, packing your hospital bag, baby milestones and much more. I’ll be sharing insights on pregnancy, birth, feeding, baby’s first year and capturing precious family moments.
I invite you to read, comment on and share my posts. Let’s create a space where we can share knowledge, stories and experiences about motherhood together.
Much love,
Sabrina x
